how do we term that of a twin pregnancy wherein one is born 6 months earlier than the other.?

i know them personally because they were my cousin. They are both normal. now aged 17, ladies both in college. When they asked their nurse bout the situation, the nurse then answered that they were maternal twins. I cant just visualize what could have happened. A pregnant woman cannot be made pregnant again right? Each of the twins i think completed 9 months each in the uterus.
